The hanging style and method mainly comes down to the material of the walls of your cubicle. Different material requires different hooks and so on.
This is important to keep in mind, in order to ensure that you use the proper method so that your artwork doesn’t end up on the floor.
How to hang pictures in a cubicle with fabric walls
Fabric is probably the hardest material for hanging pictures – or should I say ‘the softest’. Because the walls can easily rip and tear, the first thing you need to make sure is that you get the right hooks.
Plastic fabric hooks are made of plastic with a little lip in the front and two pins in the back. The double pins stick into the fabric covering on the cubicle walls.
Plastic fabric hooks are great for holding keys, calendars, headsets, papers and other small objects, as long as the items don’t exceed the 2LB maximum weight limit.
If you want to use a plastic fabric hook for hanging a picture, you want to first make sure that the frame isn’t too heavy.
Secondly, it’s recommended to use the kind that has a string in the back, as they’re easier to fasten to these hooks.
Panel wall wire hooks are similar to the ones above, except they’re made purely out of metal, and the overall cost is way lower (you get 25 hooks in a box that costs less than $10).
Other than the price point, these work the same way as their plastic counterparts. You stick them into the wall material, and use them for holding papers, keys and pictures.
The panel wall wire hooks themselves are pretty strong, but you still don’t want to overload them, as that might cause the fabric wall to rip. By spreading the weight over two hooks, you should be able to hang a small, lightweight whiteboard, but that’s about if in terms of weight.
They can also be used for hanging lightweight picture frames, just make sure to add enough squares to the piece, press down firmly and then carefully drag the picture down a little bit, just to make sure the adhesive glue of the mounting squares bite into the cloth. By doing it this way, the squares should hold up well for long periods of time.
Plastic Wall Clips for Cubicles stick into the fabric of the wall using the pins on the back. The clip on the front can then be used to hold papers and other small objects.
These plastic wall clips, in particular, are especially great for holding papers and memos, that you need to reference often and therefore need to be able to attach and detach whenever you need to use it.
Wire Partition Double Coat Hook
This hook goes over the cubicle wall instead of into it.
It’s sturdy and can easily hold a jacket or even a laptop, although the latter isn’t recommended.
The hook mounts on partitions that are 1-1/2″ to 3″ thick, without the need to use any tools.
These hooks can also be used for hanging pictures – either get a frame with a long wire already attached, or attach one yourself (see video below). As long as you keep the style consistent, and keep your office otherwise clutter free, using this method for hanging pictures can end up looking just as good as the ones above, where you can’t see hooks.
There are many different ways when it comes to how to hang pictures in a cubicle, as you can see from the products and examples mentioned above. The method you end up choosing should depend on the type of cubicle wall you have, and on your own personal preference.
